At HwaFune, fabrics labeled as LDWR must pass three rigorous tests before receiving this label. Below is an overview of the testing process:
1️⃣ Phase 1: Wash 30 times & Splash with 250 ml
The entire fabric will undergo 30 machine washes and tumble-drying, followed by a 250ml water splash test. Unlike typical tests that cut a small piece of fabric, the HwaFune owner not only persists in washing the entire fabric to simulate real-life usage conditions but also stick to maintaining stricter standards than other brands to maximize customer satisfaction and minimize any potential usage issues.
2️⃣ Phase 2: Continue Water Splash 30 minutes
After being washed 30 times and tumble-dried, the fabric is continuously splashed with water for 30 minutes to simulate conditions like heavy rain during exercise. Although LDWR's waterrepellent is awesome, it's essential to remind users that functional sportswear differs from a raincoat. Functional clothing is water-repellent rather than waterproof and also takes into account functions such as breathability and water permeability. Therefore, consumers should avoid using LDWR sportswear as a raincoat!!
3️⃣ Phase 3: Abrasion Resistance Test
Using a rubbing machine at 9kPa pressure, our fabric (after 30 washes and tumble-dried) endures 1000 abrasion cycles before a 250ml water splash test. This new approach, inspired by customer feedback, replicates real hiking conditions where heavy backpacks rub against the fabric.
Constant friction during hiking reduces water-repellent in abraded areas. Responding quickly to this issue, we refined our testing methods and enhanced the abrasion resistance, resulting in HwaFune’s high-quality LDWR fabrics today.
Final Grading Standards
After, each phase is observed to see if water has percolated through the fabric, and grade it according to the AATCC No. 22 test method (ISO grades 1-5).
Hwafune's LDWR Fabric
Our LDWR fabrics pass rigorous tests, retaining 70-80% water-repellent even after 30 washes —an impressive industry benchmark. In fact, some of our fabrics maintain this water-repellent even after 100 washes! This high durability increases the product life cycle and is more ecofriendly. Feel confident in HwaFune’s LDWR fabrics—I do too! Of course, I won’t just describe it here; I’ve also shared a video showing the actual LDWR test!
